EN: The Sacred Ton Pho Tree

One of the most revered trees in Thailand is called the Ton Pho (a tree related to the Banyan Tree).

In Pai sitting on a vacant block directly opposite the Shiwadoi Resort is a classic example of one of these ageless trees in Pai.

Buddhist legend tells that the Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment while meditating underneath Ton Pho.

In Theravada Buddhist Southeast Asia, the tree’s massive trunk is often the site of Buddhist or animist shrines as is the case with this tree.
